About Bartow County, Georgia

Cartersville is the largest and most populated city in beautiful Bartow County, Georgia. Located in northwest Georgia about 40 miles north of Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to Cartersville — other main cities include Adairsville Ga and Emerson Ga. Originally established in 1850, Cartersville and Bartow County offer a thoughtfully growing area — which is also steeped in history. Located in part along Lake Allatoona — as far back as 1000 A.D. thousands of Native American Indians lived along the Etowah River in Cartersville (with Etowah meaning “home place”) One of the historic places while visiting Cartersville are the Etowah Indian Mounds. Cartersville also offers a number of terrific and award-winning local attractions like the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville, and also the Bartow History Museum. Areas of the Cartersville Bartow County area are located at Lake Allatoona — or in close proximity to Lake Allatoona — thus the Cartersville area offers a range of outdoor sports and water sports in and around the Lake Allatoona and Red Top Mountain State Park areas. Visitors to Cartersville and Bartow County can participate with a range of sports and recreation activities at Lake Allatoona and Red Top Mountain State Park:

  • Boat rentals and boat ramps are available at Lake Allatoona.
  • Fishing is also allowed at Lake Allatoona.
  • Watersports abound at Allatoona Lake (its official name — although it is commonly called Lake Allatoona) — water skiing, waverunners, jetskis all can be found at Allatoona, including rentals.
  • Red Top Mountain State Park is located at Lake Allatoona and offers hiking, camping and cottage / cabin rentals.
  • A range of wonderful day-use parks are available at Red Top Mountain and Lake Allatoona.

Downtown Cartersville’s historic areas on Main Street are throwbacks to times gone by — some of the buildings along the original part of Main Street in Carterville date back over 100 years. On and around Main Street you can find unique, local shops and artisans — great places for shopping for special gifts and souvenirs. Another of the special hidden treasures in Bartow County is the Euharlee Covered Bridge — if you love covered bridges, and especially if you have never before seen a covered bridge, this is a must see. And last for now, but certainly not least, is Emerson Georgia. A quaint, small town — Emerson Ga is now home to LakePoint Sporting Community and Town Center (LakePoint Sports).
